About The Club

Kuro Mizu Kai translates to “Black Water Club” and is based in Coggeshall near the river Black Water. The club was started on 2nd November 2007. We teach Shindō-Ryu Karate which celebrated 35 years in 2019. We teach children from 5 years old in a mixed class, we have a number of family groups.

In 2014 the club was awarded a highly recommend certificate at the inaugural Braintree sports awards. At Shindō-Ryu 30-year celebration we had our first student grade to black belt (yudansha). This made an already special day very special for the club.

Shindō-Ryu is an English style but is based in the traditional martial arts. As such our goals are to build the individual in both mind and body. Our style teaches self defence rather than point scoring techniques for competition. Although we do not compete where there can be only one winner we do hold regular gradings where your progress can be assessed and if successful you can move on to the next stage of your karate journey.

The club badge (shown above) is a shield chosen as a defensive weapon. The Japanese characters (kanji) show the name of the club as shown below
